Well, we finally have some throughput for A-school. My Co at my last unit told me that there would be a lot of A school spots opening up for the next year, and he was right.

I waited for a year and a half to get into school for ET, and the class after mine has almost 20 people. The one after them is 21 people, and they aren't having to wait hardly at all for school. I am seeing the same for the other rates too, they are filling up classes, and fast. While it sort of irritated me that there are people coming in almost from boot, there's one thing to remember from this... this means advancement! Only thing I'm wondering about though is, why now? It can't be all from High Year Tenure...

It goes through trends. Every so often, recruiters are taking everyone RIGHT NOW! Which means a lot of non-rates, which makes wait times go up. Or recruiters get "we only have 100 bootcamp spots this year for the whole US" so not a lot of new names on the list. Combine that with rebilleting, the CG getting new assets (which means more rebilleting), and people separating/retiring/kicked out, and get you some weird fluctuations in the a school list.
Honor: if you need it defined, you don’t have it.

true, I know these trends come and go. one my my instructors was saying that ET reenlistment bonuses were at like $60,000 (yes 60k) when they first joined. Of course it's also a less "popular" rate than, say, BM or MK where I'd bet I'll never see any bonuses coming up for those ratings. The CG is also at least doubling up on drug tests to get rid of those people, and the new PT standards could be coming out any time now, which will hopefully weed out those that aren't motivated enough to stay in shape. However those things shouldn't make any big effect right now, but will help in the future for advancement. maybe it'll even help enough that we won't have to do SWE's for a while

MK here, got two bonuses for reenlisting.

Most likely what we're seeing is the first volley of HYT. HQ probably has a pretty good idea how many retirements/RELADS are going to happen over the next year. My advice is be ready to advance, get your stuff done. Once it closes, it's gonna close hard again.

My ex was an MST, he got his reenlistment bonus. I think it was about $5,000. Not bad for back in 1990. He took.the option to take half upfront. He knew he was going to OCS and that meant he forfeited the rest. It was worth it but he had the option so Yippee us.
