I am currently a licensed paramedic and recently began training for boat crew alongside an active duty small boat station. From my understanding according to AUX EMS I am allowed to assist in SAR missions with a small boat station. Since I am having difficulty finding the appropriate resource material I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with it? I am also curious as to what my scope of practice may be? From reading the Coast Guard Medical Manual it seems I am able to perform up to my scope of a paramedic but what my scope may be is limited to the coast guard clinic SMO or OIC. So it seems that the manual pertains to the other aspect of AUX EMS assisting as a "medical assistant" in a clinic rather than assisting at a small boat station. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

If you're nationally registered, you can qual up as a CG EMT-B/EMT-P. Present your card to the OIC or designate and they should either be able to administer the CG EMT training or point you in the direction you need to go.

Thank you sir. I am national registered. I am doing quals for boat crew once I finish my pqs for watch stander. Guess I just want to know what I'm allowed to do medically prior to going out on the water.

Once you get your boat qual done, reach out to your training officer, get his and (most importantly) the endorsement of your FC, and complete the USCG EMT testing process (their service specific skills set). You'd be a valuable asset to your local boat station. Or if you're already at a station, have an informal chat with the training officer there. See what they have to say. You might find yourself on one of their small boats heading out on a SAR case.

Thank you scoutdad25619. I already received endorsement from my FC, and the small boat station I am doing my quals at is very encouraging to get me on the water to assist with SAR. I guess I am just getting ahead of myself on the medical side before i get to that point. Thank you for the help.
