Just curious, I have been in just under 6 years and I am coming up on the end of my enlistment. I am a Navy rescue swimmer / Crewchief, and I also work on survival gear. I am not sure if the Coast Guard has CDIs, but I am a CDQAR, and was wondering if I do switch over and wait the time and get the AST "A" school would my Navy Quals transfer? Thanks for taking the time to read.

It's about a 6 to 12 months wait for swimmer school right now. You'll spend 6 weeks at the Ramp up/ airman program then 18 weeks of A-School, Both are now at E-city. I'm sure you are but be prepared, its a long 24 weeks of swimming.

We have QA's but your Quals won't carry over. Only thing that will carry over is your EMT qual and that get you out of 7 weeks of EMT School if you don't let it lapse.

Why do you want to become a USCG Rescue Swimmer?

    Lance,

Im not prior service but I currently hold a state EMT license and will be testing national in a few weeks. If I go into the airman program will my NREMT transfer over or will I have to retake the seven week course?

You won't need EMT until you make it through AST "A" school. You said you have a state EMT in the first sentence and then a national in the second. Which one is it? Either way, I think the Coast Guard is going to make you go through theirs.
