I am currently a ME2 with almost 5 years in the CG Reserve.  I have obtained most of my rate specific quals and have deployed to Kuwait ISO OIF.  I have really enjoyed my time as a reservist.  The time has come, however, that I want to be an active duty Coastie.  I spoke with a recruiter, and here is what I found out: he offered to bring me onboard as a SNME with an automatic advancement to ME3 after 6 months.  I also asked about HS (I am a civilian paramedic) and was told that it would be possible, but expect an extended wait for 'A' school.
I guess my biggest question, how are rated SN treated?  How hard would it be going from a 31 year old 2nd class PO to a SN?  Any input from Coasties that have gone this route would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks again.

This all depends on the command. But, typically rated SN/FN are given the same responsibilities as 3rds.

I don't really know of automatic advancements. It might be because you would have all the epqs done. Non rates are treated as non rates depending on what unit you are at. Doesn't matter on prior service time doing whatever. I have a prior service e-5 could have made e-6. Still going to do non rate work
Take what you like and leave the rest behind.

Hey ME2 I am also in the process of doing the same thing, but have not gotten any confirmation about orders or anything yet. I know that once the message went out that some reservists would be able to integrate, a lot of reserve members requested to be considered for it. Interested to see how it plays out, keep us updated on the process

I thought HS was one of those rates with a long wait time for A School. WHy the critical shortage?

Don't know. The ALCOAST didn't explain
