Hey I'm just curious as to how it is your first day at your unit. Do I just get straight to work or is there more of an orientation to it?
    Thanks if anyone has answers.

You will have a check-in sheet. You go to admin, get logged in to all of the accounts you need for your job and then go around the unit to each person on the sheet so you get acquainted to the personnel and services available. Check-in usually takes a couple of days. It takes a little while to get your bearings, even more so if you are married with children, etc. Good luck!

It's a lot of paper work. Signing your name, filling adress's, contacts, doing a physical. After that is when the fun stuff begins!

When you are married with children, like Astlust said, there is more paperwork involved. In addition, odds are your first day you will do your important check in stuff i.e. Admin, Senior Chief, Master Chief, supervisor, and then you will head out on 10 days of house hunting leave. This is all based on operational workload however. In Alaska, I got 3 days of house hunting and then I got underway for 2 months. At the air station, I already had a house and was moved in and they told me to take it anyway. It really just depends. Moving is always more complicated as the number of people moving goes up. A 20 year old single person with no dependents has a lot more fluidity than does someone like myself who is married, two kids, lots of stuff, etc. The awesome thing is that we have all been there and so everyone understands that position. A good supervisor will give you time to figure everything out before dropping the hammer!
