Question.... What are the current regulations for 6pack charter boats operating near coastal in regards to FCC VHF Station licensing and also MMSI number requirements to take advantage of the rescue 21 system? I know MMSI numbers can be obtained through BoatUS or Seatow at no cost even though less than 10% of boaters get them. Also if operating within 20 miles of the coast if you have your VHF/DSC interfaced with your GPS does that count as an EPIRB requirement? I realize if the boat goes down unlike an EPIRB the VHF/DSC will stop transmitting and the Coast Guard will only have a fix on the position where the boat went down, not where you might drift to.
