    Hello,

I am currently a active Marine(E-4) who would separate on March 2015. My MOS is 3521 Automotive Mechanic. I currently possess a Secret clearance. My military record is also clean no offenses no negative paperwork. I grew up on northern coast of California(Humboldt County) have been interested in a career change to the Coast Guard. I am motivated and can adapt to wherever i am placed. I would consider my self a great asset to to the Coast Guard.

Your MOS really will not translate into anything for the CG. So you would have to take the ASVAB again, go through MEPS again, go to boot a second time. You would be an E3 and have to wait for A School (our MOS training, in case you aren't familiar with our lingo). Also, you still have to pass the debt ratio, not have more than 2 dependents. All that good stuff. I don't know if you are aware of all of that. If that all sounds ok, talk to a recruiter within 6 months of your date of separation.

Best of luck on switching and thank you for your service in the Marine Corps. It is appreciated, Thank You.

To go along with OG2's comments, your 6 month window is not that far away (September, 6 weeks from now). If you want to make the leap, you need to also start exploring a Conditional Release from the USMC. This will keep you from having a break in service. This link may provide some additional info:

I doubt a rate determination package would even be submitted with that MOS. BUT the CG could probably offer you E-3, depending on your age and years of service. Remember you'll still retain your cumulative service for longevity pay and retirement. Call your local recruiter (where you plan to go after the USMC). Ask the recruiter for a Request for Conditional Release DD-368, after they prescreen you for accession into the USCG. Assuming you'll still have 4 years in the IRR after your active time, you'll still need to get a DD-368.
