I just had this conversation with my son who leaves in a few weeks.  Remember this, when your are getting yelled at, feel tired, doing push ups, making your bed, and cleaning the head that you are being PAID to do all these things!!!!

People pay person trainers to yell at them and make them exercise, your mom doesn't pay you to clean your room or clean the bathroom.  On top of all this you get fed and have a clean dry place to sleep.

So remember you are getting Paid.  Heck as a member of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A+M you have to pay for the honor of cleaning your room, standing inspection and getting yelled out.

Have fun, Boot Camp is the cost of membership to a life full of adventure and travel.

I agree that this could be a good way to look at the experience to help you get through but some people would pay just to get out of it. Its on a whole 'nother level than just making your bed, cleaning your bathroom, personal trainers yelling at you, or the Corps of Cadets.

In basic they push people to their limits all while screaming at you. They hold this fear of reversion over your head which creates a mental anguish for most recruits and they put you in positions of pain (so call incentive training) for hours throughout the day. If people don't quit, they thought about quitting, if people don't get reverted they got lucky (everyone has a reversion worthy mess up at least once). I don't remember much of the first few weeks simply because I went on auto pilot. A lot of other people I talked to in my company after graduation and in the fleet also blacked out during the first couple weeks. That doesn't happen when a trainer is yelling at you or when you're a fish in the Corps of Cadets. Don't get me wrong, the Corps of Cadets is difficult because of how long they have to be a fish (entire freshman year) but its kinda like comparing apples to oranges.

I would not have it any other way. It made graduation that much more of an accomplishment. The desire to meet that accomplishment is what helped me get through and recruits need to alway keep thinking about what it will feel like on graduation day. Also they need to remember that you're not the only one thinking about quitting, but you damn sure won't be one of the recruits to do it.
