Hello, I'm currently going through the enlistment process for the US Coast Guard and seem to be experiencing quite a dilemma here. I was in the Army National Guard and just ETS'd 28 March 16, but when I was in I got a conditional release (DD368) and so that's when I started the enlistment process with the Coast Guard. I went to MEPS and passed a physical, retook the ASVAB (scored a 90 AFQT), and even had reciprocity with my security clearance. The problem is I ETS'd from the National Guard and am supposedly in the IRR but every time I call HRC (Human Resources Command for the Army) at Fort Knox they show me as being "out of the Army", so am I out of the Army now? Does my recruiter need to get a DD368 conditional release from the IRR? What about my MSO (Military Service Obligation) of 8 years (I did 6 full years of drilling so far)? Am I over worrying about this? Because I’m just waiting for a "tentative" ship date of 7 May to go to boot camp for them. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated!!! (I'm an E-5 and I know I'll have to go down to E-3 and I'm cool with that)

You'll still need the DD368, because you're still considered part of the Army as a member of the IRR. If you've been completely seperated from service, you should have gotten some orders or at least a discharge certificate from the Army

A word of advice, make sure the Army NG gives you your retirement points statement and NGB-22. Not only is it important for yourself but you need those anyways to enlist. If your DD-368 is good till at least your boot camp date you should be good to go. The DD-368's get processed at Cape May when you join. Also, little known secret, if you are in the IRR your recruiter should be able to forward up a new DD-368 for you for approval if it is needed. May 7th ship date?? All of this is hopefully ironed out by now.
