We are dropping him off at the recruiter's office on Monday and he flies out in the early a.m. on Tuesday. I heard there will be a closed Facebook page for families. How do we locate that page? The company page has not been updated, so I am not sure what unit he will be a part of & which Hall he will be in. Do I need to know these things, in order to begin writing to him? I know that he can bring a picture, so is it alright to send pictures or scanned pictures as part of the letter? (We just had family pictures taken and I would like to send him one, when they come in, & the dog is expecting, and would like to send puppy pictures.) When should I start writing? I don't want a letter there before he even gets there, but don't want others to all have mail and him not get a letter. Thank you!

You can look at the above website, it is updated pretty quickly. You will get company name and hall. You can write as soon as you want. Like everything, mail is earned. So he might not get it for a week. But that's ok. Good to hear your name called at mail call. I've heard some families will use color coded envelopes... pink from grandma, yellow from mom, blue from girlfriend. This way without even looking they know who sent a letter. You can also number the envelopes so they are read in order. As for pictures, you can send but be aware they have to keep those just as stowed away and neat as uniforms. So don't send a lot. Another suggestion... if you have a printer, print pictures on paper and write the letter around the pictures. Then a sheet or 2 of paper but a few photos.

When writing remember not to do too many miss you's.... they know. They miss you too. I also tried to limit the guess what we did without you??? Nothing will kill spirit like hearing about a favorite restaurant or ice cream or dog park that they can't do. It's ok to tell what you're doing but don't over emphasize. It's a balancing act. You can also write a letter full of questions with blanks. He can full in the blanks and send it back to you. You get your answers and they don't have to work so hard to write. 😊

I finally found the company link. Contact Sharon Griffin and she can add you to the group when she sets up the page.

Your son will call someone late Tuesday night so make sure you answer a strange number. He will read a canned message and if all goes well that will be the last time you will hear from him until they get a few hours of on base liberty unless there company commander lets them use their phones as a reward. Your son will probably pick up the Cape May crud and will be very froggy sounding when you talk with him from all the yelling so don't be alarmed.
