    Hey everyone!

I'm currently an active duty specialist in the Army and talking to a CG recruiter about joining. Just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for all the info these forums have provided me.

    Welcome,

I'm prior service Army (E-4) and have been in the Coast Guard for a few months now. You couldn't be making a better decision. Let me know if you gave any questions.

Hey! What do you like better about the Coast Guard? What's your job? I'm a signals intell analyst currently trying to transfer to IS in the CG.

In the Army I was a 35G and worked with Novembers often. Currently I am a nonrate with the hopes of becoming an ET (Electronics Technician). I have only been in a few months so you should probably take my experience with a grain of salt but what I like so far is:

    1. I am treated like a person. I could give examples but you will see what I am talking about from the start. 2. Your supervisors know the job better than you do. The Army wants to know how fast you could run in a circle and if you know what color train tracks are on a map. The Coast Guard actually test for job competency to promote and it makes a huge difference. 3. The people are great. Almost everyone that is in really wants to be there. Retention has been around 90% in the past from what I hear. It was a bit of culture shock working with people that are actually happy and positive about their job and military service. High Morale was a mythical creature for my unit in the Army.

    4. Awesome mission(s) that really affect U.S citizens everyday. 5. The best duty stations. From boot camp people went to places like Seattle, WA. San Francisco, CA. Charleston, SC. Virginia Beach, VA. Key West, FL. Kodiak, AK. Boston, MA. Philadelphia, PA. Staten Island, NY. Honolulu, HI. and Galveston, TX to name a few. Also, something I was not aware of until I joined is that the Coast Guard does have presence overseas. The Coast Guard could take you to places like Japan, Australia, Russia, and to many places in the Caribbean and South America.

These are some of the bigger things that I like about the Coast Guard. But, thinking about it, I probably would not be able to tell you one thing that I liked better in the Army than the Coast Guard.

Big differences exist from the top on down, you're going to find the USCG is a great job and the people are generally very good at what they do. The USCG can be picky, can take the top applicants, and they do. Your service is valuable, they're going to like that. Best of luck.
