Glad to see that there is a forum/community for the USCG online. I was in the USMC for 3 1/2 years, got out to pursue school with the GI Bill. Honorable discharge. Less than 4 years active because they were downsizing and accepted by early exit request.
Interested in intel, law enforcement, and fire/rescue. USCG seems to have an interesting, holistic mission on the federal level. I am not looking for the USMC experience again, but I do think I would like to continue serving, wear the uniform, and be part of something greater than myself again. To be honest, the medical, dental, travel, and housing paid for with extra income on top (base pay) is nice as well.
I feel that if I can continue to learn new things, master them, and mentor others as I grow older, retiring in 20-30 years, and being a part of something awesome during my lifetime, then that will have been a good life. I look around me and see so many people chasing extrinsic things. As long as my needs are met, and I have some play money to have a quality of life, I also want a sense of purpose and to serve & protect the citizens of the United States.
I look forward to learning more. I would love for you to PM me with your rate, your experience, and what all you have done in the USCG. What you think makes a good candidate for the USCG. The overall culture of the USCG. Especially if you are prior military Marine, which I hear there are a lot of in the USCG -- please reach out!
