    What was the last Coast Guard boat to be fitted with the Coast Guard racing stripe and why was it last?

    Hmm, on the Coast Guard Cutter Eagle page, it says:

    U.S. Coast Guard said...
    One of the major controversies regarding the cutter was generated when the Coast Guard decided to add the "racing stripe" to her otherwise unadorned hull in mid-1976. She was the last cutter so painted and many in the sailing community decried the new paint job.


    What am I missing?

    Uscg 44303 was the last boat it was in the movie lassie. So it was delayed

    This Page does say that 44303 was the last boat to be painted with the racing stripe and it mentions the episode of 'Lassie.' It also states that the Lassie episode aired in 1969. The Eagle Page says that the racing stripe was painted on that ship in 1976. So it would appear that 44303 was the last 'boat', which is what your question asked, and Eagle was the last ship.

    You got me on that one.
