Hi everyone, I was recently DEP'd into the Coast Guard, and I dropped out of it, because I thought I wanted to go to college first. I am 19 years old. My question is this: Am I able to get back into the Coast Guard? I realized that the Coast Guard is the best choice for me, but I am afraid that i have burned that bridge. Also if I am able to get back in could I go into the reserves while in college, and once I am out of college or the 6 year contract is up go active duty? Any advice on what I should do would help. Thanks everyone and God Bless.

The *only* time I ever took someone back after they discharged from the DEP was when their father died in a car accident. I would make you wait *at least* a year before I gave you the time of day again.

Think of it this way, if someone offered you a job and you turned it down, would you really expect them to offer it again if you changed your mind? (No)

Also, this is not a game. Getting someone to the point where they can be DEP'ed cost the Coast Guard a lot of time and money.

DEP discharged. That's what I did, and I completely understand. I would not expect them to give me the time of day again. My old recruiter told me that I could come back anytime and he would work with me again though. I do not know if that was just a formality thing or not though. If I talked to a different recruiter at a different location would that affect me getting in again? I do not expect him to take me back, but if I had the chance I would. I appreciate your reply.

If your recruiter said come back and see me... Why would you not? You go to another recruiter it looks like you had issues you would rather not divulge so you went recruiter shopping. That second one would likely tell you to hit the bricks, possibly DQing you in some fashion from EVER joining. Dance with the date that brung ya. (Meaning stick with the guy that you know And he knows you.)

Also to your reserve question... Going from reserve to active isn't impossible but it is highly improbable. If you want active, go active. If you want reserve,.go for reserve. If you want college first, go to college first. You can also earn your degree while on active duty. Many, many have.

I understand. I appreciate your response. Hopefully he will take me back and I can go on with my career.
