As the title says, I have 4 years active duty as a 4N051, aerospace medical technician. Is there any chance I could transfer Directly into a HS3 position after DEPOT? I have done quite a bit of research, I see that for Independent duty HS they honor the Air Force equivalent independent duty course. I was not a IDMT however if they honor that perhaps the initial course translates as well?

I am currently stationed in Germany and for some reason I can not access gocoastguard as well as uscg.mil. and have therefore not made contact with a recruiter yet to address these questions.

If this is in the wrong section please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Ben

What would happen is you would provide your recruiter with all of your documentation outlining your schooling and assignments. Your recruiter would then assemble what's called a Rate Detemination Package and submit it to the HS Rating Force Master Chief (RFMC). If, after review, it's determined that your USAF training and experience translates into the HS world, you'll be given the OK to come over as an HS3.

HS3 is not a critical rate and isn't listed on the Open Rate List (ORL), you'd have to have a really good rate determination package to be considered qualified for active duty. You could potentially apply for the prior service reserve programs we have where you could serve as an HS3 and attend DEPOT with an approved RDP.

As someone else mentioned, you are HS is not on the "Open Rate List" (ORL) meaning that we typically do not grant direct entry HS3s.

    So, you have two choices.

    1. Pick a new MOS/Rate
    2. Join as a non-rated member (you would be an E3) and join the wait list to attend HS school.
