    Hi Everyone,

My husband is going to DEPOT July 16th and graduating August 4th.

We have closing on our house in a few weeks and will be in an apartment in Michigan until after his graduation. All of the timing of getting from graduation to the first station would not be a problem except we will have a 2 year old and ~5 week old at that time (Due date is June 30th).

How does this process work? Will I be able to have the movers come to our apartment the week before graduation so that we don't have to travel back to MI to meet the movers? Should I have a family member be there to sign off on our goods? Or should we just drive back to MI, coordinate the movers during that day, then drive to wherever we will be living?

The logistics of it all is overwhelming to me because of the age of the new baby but any advice would be appreciated! I'm excited, just trying to calm my nerves by having a rough plan in place while I'm still sleeping at night.

    Thanks

You have a lot on your plate. What you might think about is 1. Go to graduation, then back to Mi for leave, then let him go off to the next assignment, find a place for all of you and then arrange for the movers to come. That way you are doing a door to door move and it will make it easier for you and your little ones.

Personally, even with little one in tow, I would go with him. I would never want anyone, even my husband, picking my house alone. No thank you. I've moved far too many times and seen what he would pick and I walk away laughing. That's a very personal choice, maybe you know he would find something fabulous and that's good too.

You can have someone else pack out for you but you would need to give that person a Power of Attorney. Also, you don't know where he will be assigned... He can get Seattle and then Michigan is just on the way past anyway. The shortened boot camp makes it easier and harder... Not as long apart, not as much time to prepare for what's next. But don't stress. It all works out just lovely.
