Prior service Navy AM2 here in the process of returning to active duty as a Coastie. My brother in law is currently in the CG and is helping familiarize me. My goal is to be a GM, a rating i had wanted to be in the Navy but well, yknow. Im 31, married with two pre-tween children
I was active from '04-'09 where i spent most of that time with VQ4 out of Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City of all places. I was 18, separated at 23 with a wife a baby, went to school on the GI Bill and played civilian for the past 8 years briefly interrupted by two non consecutive years in the USNR in a drilling status (best of bothworlds? IMO Reserves are worst of both). Spent the pastcouple years trying to get into Customs as a CBPO and got all the way through to my EOD date when i realized i didnt want the job and wanted to finish what i started within active duty.
The Navy is where my heart is, grew up around, watched my father return from Desert Storm aboard USS JFK CV67, was pulled out of class by my NJROTC instructor when the USS Cole was hit in Yemen with my then-stepfather aboard, went aboard numerous Tiger cruises, wore the uniform proudly, but just made a bad choice of getting out and anyone thats prior Navy can tell you, its a b---- to get back in
To wrap this up, im eager to join what ive always considered our sister service (respectfully!) and to finish my time and to give back to what will hopefully be my new home, the US Coast Guard
