my Boyfriend and I have been together for 2 and a half years and he is seriously considering the coast guard. I think it will be great for him and I'm excited for him! We definitely have talked about marriage but we didn't think this soon. from what I've read things are easier if you are married before bootcamp which would have to be within 6 months otherwise  we probably wouldn't be able to live together till he gets out of A school and ranks up. (from our knowledge so far) what would you all suggest? I would obviously love to marry him now but i don't want to rush into something this huge!

Having become something of an expert on marriage, my wife and I just celebrated our 36th anniversary including 13 year in the USAF I would say this about that. Do you consider yourself an independent person because marrying a person in the service will require you to function on your own. If the car breaks down and your spouse is out at sea then its up to you get if fixed. If the water header breaks it's up to you to get it fixed, if one of the kids breaks their arm its up to you to take them to the hospital. When the dog is sick, the roof is leaking, the baby has an ear infection and you haven't been able to sleep in a day are you going to be ok without your spouse?

If you can do all these things then marry the person you have been with for over two years and start your adventure together.

My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years. He just left for basic not too long ago. We talked about marriage the moment he DEPed in almost a year ago. We felt like we were rushing our story and timeline, and we didn't want to do that. Personally, we wanted to get married naturally over time, not so much "You leave for bootcamp in 7 months, lets go sign a wedding certificate now." This also gives us plenty of time to plan for a ceremony (though I do understand people will marry and then have a ceremony years after) and for me to graduate college (in my second year now) and for him to get through all his stuff, like A school and then we can settle down. This may be a very different way compared to most people.

Just remember to marry for the right reasons, not the wrong ones and to not rush it because you feel the need to! Best of luck.
