If you have done your ASVAB and medical exam already you just go to swear in and sign the DEP contract. You will learn your ship date if you don't know already. While in DEP you are just waiting to ship. You may have to attend DEP meetings if you live near your recruiter where they check your fitness level and give you the basics for preparing for boot camp. If you live a distance away from the recruiter you may just email or text the recruiter where you are at with your fitness level and prep level for boot camp. Other than that REP is just a waiting period, you can change your mind about joining while in DEP, don't do anything stupid or get into trouble while in DEP because the coast guard can change it's mind about taking you too. Other than that you just show up to MEPS again on your report date or the day before, sign your contract and ship out.

6 Hours! Welcome to the military. It may or may not take that long.

Your recruiter may be overestimating just to allow for a margin of error. There may be a delay for some reason, etc. Better to say six hours and only have it take two, than have you plan for two and have it take six

I remember I had to be at MEPS at like 0530 or something super early and the earliest swearing in ceremony was at 1000. So most of my morning was just sitting doing nothing.

It depends on your MEPS and how busy they are. I arrived at 0530 on July 6th, had all my finger prints taken, did a quick med inspect, and then was briefed on how to behave/react during the ceremony. I was out of MEPS by 10:30am. Its mostly just waiting for everyone to get through the whole process and do the ceremony as a whole. I swore in with a bunch of Navy shippers as I was the only CG there to DEP in that day. They loaded up on a bus and I went home.

As for the DEP meetings, go to them. All of them. They require minimum of 2 a month, but I recommend going to all. It helps you get a head start on military bearing, (they test you on facing movements, required knowledge, proper courtesy etc) as well as all of your physical fitness requirements. They will NOT send you to boot camp if you cannot at least meet the minimum PT requirements. My boot camp date was originally August 22nd, but I was lacking on my pushups severely and they bumped me to October 3rd. If you are not passing your PT test at DEP meetings by at least 3 weeks prior to your given ship date, they will move it, or take it away all together until you pass before giving you another ship date.

Do weights at the gym, and run your tail off is all I can suggest. But its fun, I loved the meetings. I have one tomorrow, my final one before I ship. All of the recruiters who have been to the DEP meetings to test us have really helped this feel real, and helped me feel ready.
