I'm new to the forum, so I apologize for the "new guy" questions. I'm a WO1 in the Army and fly Blackhawks. Like so many on here, I've wanted to fly for the Coast Guard for as long as I can remember. I spoke to a recruiter about the DCA option. I do have a few questions about how the organizations operates if you guys wouldn't mind answering some questions.
As a Warrant, the majority of my time is spent on additional duties, Army training, and some flying. What is the breakdown of duties and flight time of a typical pilot? Also, how are TDY trips set up? The Army sends us TDY for schools and training, is the same true for the Coast Guard?
I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan and was also wondering how the Coast Guard deploys. How long are pilots away from home station? Are deployments regular as they are in the Army?
How are dury stations assigned? The Army takes "requests", but soldiers are sent to where the Army needs them.
Thanks a bunch again if you can help answer some of my questions. I appreciate it. Most of the information that I've been reading is about 10 years old, so it would be nice to get a fresh perspective on things.
