So I've been trying to find some info but on my specific case but had no luck. I'm 25 years old with a bachelors degree in criminal Justice. I took the asvab and pass it.
I admitted at MEPS that I have use marihuana 200 to 400 it may be lees than that but on the paper that they gave me there was a question how many time I smoke so I didn't know a specific number so I put that there. I don't consider my self a habitual user but the MEPS doctor put that I was a heavy user even though my college years I smoke about 1 or 2 joints per week and some months I did not smoke alone it was always with friends on a timespan of 4 years. I passed my drug test at MEPS since I been clean for a full year and don't have intention of smoking again I have a clean criminal record.

My question is am I elegible for a waiver? Do I still have a chance of joining the coast guard?

PS. excuse my English since is my second language. Thankyou

When I joined if said you did anything more than "experimenting" then you were disqualified. Not sure if its changed since then.

Every action has consequences, both good and bad. The decision to smoke marijuana to any extent, but especially that much, is going to have a lasting consequence. I have a feeling you will likely need to find a new career path.

Hey Michelango. Your best resource is going to be the manual:

    ***
    (Disqualifies)
Repeated drug, including marijuana, or chemical substance abuse/use, where the use of and reliance on these substances are part of the person’s behavior pattern. Participated in a drug rehabilitation program.
NOTE: This does not include drug experimentation, which is defined as “a few times for reasons of curiosity, peer pressure, or similar reasons.”

    https://media.defense.gov/2018/May/16/2001917927/-1/-1/0/CIM_1100_2F.PDF
    ***

Seems sorta straight forward. You can experiment before joining but if you have a sustained addiction with a demonstrated reliance then it's a no go.

I've heard of people being DQ'ed for way way way less than that. So unfortunately it's not looking good for you.

Hope I'm not too late on this.

I say this all speaking from my OWN, RECENT, PERSONAL experience.

I went into the recruiters office back in September 2016. I was 24 with nothing but a high school degree and some debt. haha. I put on my application that I experimented with marijuana. Was almost immediately told that it could be a problem. Was actually told I might have to wait a year before applying again.

I was then told that I could try writing a letter to the Coast Guard Recruiting Command explaining my very limited use. I did. My explanation must have been sufficient because fast forward, I took the ASVAB in October 2016.

I went to MEPS in December 2016. The doctor asked about the drug use. I put down approx. 100 times. Still thought it was weird that they asked how many times you used. Like, who keeps track of that? haha. In hindsight, I definitely did it less than 100 times. At any rate, by January 2017 I was heading back to MEPS to swear in. Could've left for boot camp on February 28th, but I had to prepare my personal life(leaving multiple jobs, catching up on bills, etc.) for me leaving. Ending up at boot camp in March 2017.

I hope this information gives you some comfort that your dream could still become a reality. But keep in mind every situation is different. My story is uniquely odd. I've heard stories of people waiting a year plus to go to boot camp after seeing a recruiter. I managed to go from recruiter to boot camp in 5-6 months with a drug discrepancy. The world around the military is lightening up on marijuana. Maybe that helped me. Maybe it could help you.

I wish you the best of luck.
