    I am in the army with 8 1/2 years as a mechanic. I am hopeful to enter the coast guard, but could use some helpful info from coast guard members. I Will I be deployed all the time? I have already served 14 months in Iraq and 8 months in Afghanistan, so deployments are not new.  Any info would be helpful.

     My husband just switched from the Army as and E-5 88 november to the Coast Guard and He had to take a loss or rank for 6 months to E-3 but he changed MOS too. There is a program for prior military call pitstop in Cape May New Jersey that is 30 days and then there version of ATI in the Bay area of California that last any where for 2-4 month depending on the job you are chose. You will have to got to MEPS again and take the ASVSB and a new Physical too.  But your time does carry over so there is no time lost if you have 8 1/2 years then when you swith over it will go with you the whole switch process takes about 8 months and you cannot start the process till 6 months before your ETS from the Army..

    can anyone give any info about it school. I was told by a coast guard recruiter that if i qualified I woulod have to wait usually about 4-6 months to get into school. is this true?

    Im glad I found this forum. Im currently in the Navy wanting to switch over to the CG. Ive been to over 30 countries yet advancement in the Navy is difficult and I am almost at my 8 yr mark. I also wish to continue service and heard from many individuals that the cg is the way to go. My question is this: Does the pay chart work the same for an E4 in the cg as in the Navy including BAH? How often do you deploy? Finally where can you be stationed. I would like to be based out of Maryland. Can anyone help me.
