    Hi. My name is Jessica and Im 21 years old. I live in Baltimore and for the past few years I have considered joining the Coast Guard for many reasons. Im still unsure about it and I would love to talk to someone maybe close to my age, even a girl, about it. I first thought about joining for money for college. I had a good job and I thought that I could save on my own. I recently lost my job and Im really unsure of what I want to do. Joining seems like an option now more than ever because Im unemployeed and stuck in a rutt. The travel opportuinity intrigues me as well. I havent traveled much and this would be a great way to do that. Ive grown up with military family, I have a great respect for it. However, there is still a fear of letting go of everything that is familiar to me and starting over. If anyone has time to talk with me about this Id greatly appreciate it. I know I could go to a recruiter, but in the past i felt like they were pressuring me to join. I just want someone to talk to, no pressure. Thanks!

    Hi Jessica, my name is Maria and have three children in the Coast Guard. The oldest is in Station Oregon Inlet, NC. The second is in Station Shinnecock, Hampton Bays, NY. The third one is stationed in the Cutter Vigorous (WMEC-627) out of Cape May, NJ. When they joined the CG, they all went in for different reasons. The oldest joined in 1999 and the others in 2001. After the graduation from boot camp, my daughter talked about joining the CG and with the help of her brother(non CG), she decided not to join and he decided there was a career for him waiting. At the time he was unemployed too. If you would like to talk to any of them about making a career in the Coast Guard please feel free to write me at USCGMom3@hotmail.com. I will forward it to my sons. They will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. No pressure.

    There is a CG Recutir that I know she is not in your are but tell her I told you to call her there is no pressure she is a bit older but has been in since 18 years and is now going to OCS to be an office.
