I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed in another post, but I am new to this page. I searched and searched and could not find a definitive answer.
A little background about me if it helps. NO prior service. I am 26 years old, turning 27 shortly. I am a local Police Officer and have been in a sworn position for five years. I work patrol full time with many ancillary duties to include SWAT, instructor certs, and more. I hold both a bachelor’s and master’s degree.
My main interest is to join the reserves as an ME (I am also highly interested in the IV rating, however from my research, I understand that may not be a realistic goal for me at the moment since I’m not in a full time detective position, and CGIS looks for more significant investigative experience, so that is something I may be interested in down the road).
Anyways, my question revolves around the minimum age required for DEPOT. I have read that DEPOT is for recruits between ages 27-40. The way I understand that is that one would qualify for DEPOT the day they turn 27. However, I spoke with a recruiter in the past and he told me I needed to be 28 to go to DEPOT. Am I misunderstanding the age requirement, or was that recruiter possibly misinformed? I ask because he seemed to really shoo me away from the topic when DEPOT came up in discussion. Also, he was adamant that there was slim to no chance that the Rating Force Master Chief would approve a RDP for me for the ME rating, since I am not a federal LEO. This also struck me as odd because I have read countless forums from local Police Officers explaining that they got approved RDPs for the ME rating with no problem.
Being close to 27, I would like to know if I would qualify for DEPOT. No, the additional 5 weeks of training would not break me, but I figure if I have the option, I would rather go through the three weeks. (Yes, yes, I understand that activations and deployments could mean me being sent away for many months at a time. I am fully willing and prepared to do so, if the time comes. Strictly talking about initial entry training though, I would prefer the shorter interruption in my civilian career and family life.)
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
