Hey,
I'm currently working on finishing up my undergrad degree, and plan on going to grad school and working in academia after that. I am also hoping
to join the reserves as soon as I can, but I worry that if I join before I really settle down that joining the reserves would mean that applying to
grad school and applying to teaching positions would become difficult. In particular, if I only apply to universities where I know that there are BM reserve
billets available nearby, and put in for a transfer to that billet, I am worried that command might deny the transfer for whatever reason and I'll be stuck in my current city jobless.
I am currently in the process of joining the Auxiliary so that I can help the USCG before my life settles down, but I am curious if this is a valid worry of mine, or if when there is a BM billet available where I'm transferring to and when I have reasonable life-related circumstances that I shouldn't really worry about a request for transfer being denied.
