Hey everyone...long time no talk. My son Sean (uniform 182) will be graduating FS "A" School in Petaluma on 6/18 and he will come back to NJ for a break. He has been assigned to the USCGC MUNRO in Kodiak Alaska and will be reporting in July. I have received many different
answers to this question, so I am asking the experts....... does he get reimbursed (any portion of) by the USCG for his travels from NJ back to Alaska

    Thanks
    Kelly

he will get reimbursed for the cost of a ticket from petaluma to alaska or drive from petaluma to alaska. if he is going on leave to NJ then the cost to come to NJ and go back to where he is supposed to pay for it.

He'll have a ticket provided for him at no cost from Petaluma to Alaska. While traveling he will get "per diem" for each authorized travel and proceed day. From Petaluma to Alaska by air he'll probably get about 3 travel days and 3 proceed days. You can google "per diem" to find the rates. He can either get travel advances before leaving or be reimbursed when he fills out his travel claim upon reporting to his new unit. Most people typically take the advances which are directly deposited into their checking account.

If he travels outside of Petaluma after boot camp (for instance, wants to goes home on leave) he'll have to pay for the ticket to wherever he wants to go. If the place happens to be on the way to Alaska (which NJ is not) he can ask for a ticket that has a "delay enroute". Basically what that is is a long layover (think days or weeks) at an airport that is on the way to Alaska. If there additional airfare cost due to the "delay enroute" he'll have to pay for it out of pocket. Since he is going in the opposite direction of Alaska he will probably not be able to use this option so will have to pick up the entire airfare to NJ.

he probably wont get any Proceed time because he is leaving A school. I am not sure if it is authorized or not. I am not in the mood to look up the regs to find out.

I just read in the manual it will all depend on how long he has been in. If he is an e-4 with more then two ears service he is authorized proceed if not he isnt authorized proceed time if he is living in Govt quarters when he arrives
