Hey everyone, I'm currently active duty Air Force and will be putting in my first DCIO package this fall. I am working on getting the conditional release right now, my commander is supportive but I dont think he is the approval authority. I've gone through multiple AFIs but I cant seem to find any guidance for this. If any other Air Force applicants have some insight on who they had to route their conditional release to it would be greatly appreciated! |

I am Army but I have seen the reg passed to me from the recruiter, in ref to all branches and it says "unit commander" for you. For Army, its essentially the same. As long as I'm not indef, an O-6 can be the approval authority. I was feeling just like you were though. I was really insecure that my approval authority wasn't correct, but I triple checked. But as max said, hollow23 is AF and just got picked up DCIO so he should be able to help you |

For the Navy/Marine Corps folks, SECNAVINST 1000.7G outlines who is responsible for processing requests. For Navy, CNO (N131) via Military Community Management (BUPERS-3), Attn: BUPERS-31B1, Millington, TN 38055-8100 and their chains of command. For Marines, on the ADL, requests must be submitted to CMC via Headquarters Marine Corps either (MMSR) or (MMOA-3), 3280 Russell Road, Quantico, VA 22134-5103 through their chains of command and based on career designation status.

Is AFI 36-3207 the publication you're looking for? It would appear
HQ AFPC Retirements and Separations Division (DPPR) does this on behalf of SAF? |

So when I got mine done the Commander is the approval authority - and then if you get picked up that is when it gets routed further up. At least that is how I understood it. |
