Hi Shipmates! Got few questions about switching for AD to reserves. So my background is I'm coming up on the end of my enlistment and I didn't fully want to get out. I'm currently a FN looking to go MK reserve. I would reup and go to A school AD but is very difficult with current family issues, a devorce and a few other things going on in my life. I'm from the SF area and planning on going that way. Traveling is not a big deal to me so I'm willing to commute. Is it hard to get a STA billit in the reserves? PSU'S are badass but my heart not 100% their for that kind of unit right now. I the future yes because I plan on doing 20 years. Is anyone stationed out that way? Just kinda wondering what options are available and what job/ missions are back home. Thank you shipmates for any advice.

Greetings... If you're looking to move from AD to SELRES, then you'll want to contact the In Service Transfer Team (ISTT) at RPM CGR-SMB-ISTT@uscg.mil They'll be able to assist with finding a unit for you and handling related administrative issues. You'll have to let them know you haven't been to A school yet, as that will need to be factored into the equation. A school orders for Reservists work differently than AD. Reservists don't put their name on a list and wait, as do AD. You will be given an actual date.

There are plenty of MK billets at STA's. If you're looking to go to the SF area, you have STA SF, STA Golden Gate, STA Monterey, STA Vallejo, STA Rio Vista, STA Bodega Bay.

Contact the ISTT at your earliest opportunity to get the ball rolling

    Best of luck!

Sweet! That was what I was hoping for. I will contact them this week to see what they have in my area. I love this job and didn't want to fully get out. Unfortunately I'm an E3 because I fell into bad times and couldn't leave my then sick wife at home with 2 kids. She is restricted to the area we live in because of the kids. Theirs more than that but just to give you an idea of how things worked out that way .
