Question 1: Can top students choose a C-School immediately following A-School? If so, any advice on which to choose? Question 2: If not, is it possible and advisable to negotiate a guaranteed C-School in place of a critical rating bonus, when working with a recruiter prior to signing/shipping? Thanks for any information. It is greatly appreciated. Respectfully, Mike |

Sending a member to a C School is funded at the unit level. It isnt something you can arrange through a recruiter or take the place of A School. Units will send members to C schools based on what they need at the unit. So if the school doesnt benefit the unit they wont send you. |

Thanks for replying. I am aware that a C-School cannot take the place of an A-School. The reason I am asking these questions is to determine if there is a way to gain more knowledge right off the bat in exchange for no say whatsoever in where I go after C-School. Basically, I wouldn't fill out a dream sheet because I would already know where I am going, which is based on prior negotiation, which itself was based on projected rotation/separation of an ET with specific C-School qualifications (for which I have negotiated to complete). I know it's not likely, but I had to ask. Thanks again. Respectfully, Mike |

Oops. My apologies. I did not mean to accept my previous comment as an accepted answer. |

Recruiters dont have the ability to see specific units that are available for ET's following A School. The list of available units will be provided by Detailers when you are in A School. It wouldn't be practical for a recruiter to guarantee a specific unit and C School to a newly recruited member. There are too many factors that could cause the position to not get filled in a timely manner. You may not graduate basic training, you may not graduate A School, A School may be delayed such as recently because of COVID which would delay you getting to your unit, C Schools have been canceled recently too. I like the way you are thinking but the Coast Guard cant guarantee anything that specific. |
