Hello to anybody reading this!
I'm a new member here, and I have a couple of questions regarding joining the USCG Auxiliary.
I wanted to ask about what is considered disqualifying in terms of minor misdemeanors. Why I ask is because I was very immature and foolish at 18, and was caught with a marijuana pipe. it was a Misdemeanor 4, which in my state is very low. I spent 2 days in jail (it was the weekend) and got a year of unsupervised probation. I also lost my license (per state policy) for 6 months. I completed my year of probation with no issues, and have not had any other problems with the law (with the exception of 1 speeding ticket in 2010) since. All of this happened in 2008, 3 or so months after I had turned 18. I later was able to get the conviction expunged.
Will this hinder me from joining? I hope that someone could shed some light on this, as I have looked through the AUXMAN and cant find anything in particular relating to this. I was unfortunately physically unable (weight, then later a gastric disorder) to join the USAF, but I have always had a yearning to serve my country in whatever capacity that I am able to, as I come from a military family dating back to the American Civil War. I know I messed up in my youth, but I really hope this would not be an exclusionary offense.
My second question is relating to duties. What all does the Auxiliary do in land-locked areas of the country? Do they primarily patrol and perform missions on reservoirs and lakes?
Thank you all for any answers in advance!
