Will they tape at boot camp if you’re slightly over max weight. If so is it 27.5% max BMI?

Why are you overweight? You should be under the max. Stop eating junk and exercise more.

My understanding is that you have to be at least five pounds under your max weight before you can ship to boot camp. You and your recruiter should be monitoring your weight.

If you are over your max weight you should ask your recruiter to tape you. You will be taped at MEPS if you are over your max weight but MEPS has a tendency to be very generous with their measurements. You will be taped when you arrive at Cape May if you are overweight. For males ages 17 to 29 you can't have over 22% body fat. if you are 30 to 39 the max is 24%. For females its 32% and 34%. If you are over both your max weight and max body fat you will be processed for discharge and will be eligible to reenlist after 6 months with an approved waiver. I don't recommend shipping if you are close to your max body fat percentage or max weight. Recruits have been discharged for being just 1 pound over their max weight.

Thanks for the info. I’m one pound over as of tonight, active/eat healthy and ship out early November so I’ll get well below the threshold, but was curious. Thanks

Also one other thing to be aware of, MEPS will always round your height up to the next inch, Cape May will round down. For example 66.1 inch at MEPS is rounded up to 67 inches, at Cape May it will be 66 inches. Make sure you know what your true max allowable weight is.
