I'm considering enlisting as an OS in part to obtain the $30k bonus. My recruiter told me I can get BAH of $1,600 and more as a single man. I understand there's a possibility of being denied BAH as an OS due to being stationed on a cutter. I imagine that same possibility exists for practically every rate, right? If not, which rates are those? If it does then which rates have the greatest chance of being given BAH?
My thinking is $30k sounds wonderful especially if I can get BAH on top of it but if I would have to choose one over the other then BAH is likely to amount to more over a four year period.
Also, do coasties most often get BAH or government contracted housing while posted at a small boat or air station?
I hope my questions and communication are both clear.
Thank you uscg community for helping me on my journey!
