Hi, Gang - Hope y'all like the name. I'm prior service (USAF '83-'91), and am brand-spankin' new to the maritime world. If I'd known then what I know now...well, things would likely have been much different. So much for the denouement...My question regards basic customs & courtesies. Being prior military, I think it's important to recognize, honor, and exercise proper military etiquette. So, I'm asking for some assistance on a very basic, but important topic- rank recognition.
It's been well over twenty years since I graduated Basic Training, and I never was very strong on interservice rank recognition, but as I now reside within 25 minutes of the 9th District HQ, have a station in the port where I normally launch, and have a rather high-profile vessel (flame-job graphics, dual 4-inch ss exhaust, low freeboard, you get the idea), it is highly likely that I will soon come into close contact with one or more members of what I have come to regard and respect as the most desirable of our nation's defense forces. I would be horribly ashamed and embarassed if my first encounter with one of these fine service-persons (pc?) were marred by my inability to address them properly. And since I plan to submit my vessel for a voluntary safety inspection this season, I am certain that this encounter will be forthcoming - soon!
Can anyone provide me with a resource that might get me started in the right direction ?? Thanks!!
