    what Coast Guard bouy tender at Midway Islad on Dec 7 1941 when Pearl Harbor was bombed? (yes the CG was in the islands at that time.  I was on this boat in 1980)

    According to the Coast Guard History page on The Coast Guard and the Japanese Attack, 7 December 1941, CGC Walnut (WAGL-252) was at Midway Island and was even shelled, as it were, by Japanese destroyers.

    I wasn't able to find much about her at first - most searches turned up info about the current Walnut, but I did find a picture.

    Googling "WAGL-252" turns up a lot of info.

    thank you, like I said I was on the Walnut, actually I was on both Walnuts. I was on the decommisioning crew of the old Walnut, decommisioned in 1982,and on the commisioning crew of the new Walnut. I was also on the CGC Fir (the old one, sister ship to the old Walnut).
