Notice I said 'typically,' as I am aware you work for the USCG under coast guard and they can tell me I'm on duty in hell if they need me there, lol.  I just want some typical info, or if you want to give non-typical info just state that.

Will a reservist get activated for cutter duty?

How often do reservists typically get activated?

What is the most common reason?  My guess is natual disaster aid.

Can you request activation?  Like when katrina hit, I would have wanted to help out, and if I wasn't called in, could I request it...

    Typical length?

    Anything you want add?

    Thanks for your help!

Yes, it is very possible to get activated, this is one of the reasons we integrated Reserves with Active Duty. How often you will get activated and why depends on real world variables. There is no correct answer that I can give. It is possible to request activation. quite often solicitations will go out via message traffic requesting volunteers. Another option is requesting title 10 orders. These orders can bring you on to active duty status in a contractual commitment.

All are very good questions that a local recruiter can answer. Get in touch with a local recruiter for more specific answers!

    Hope this helps

I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted Coastie, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves.

Oh i realize it is possible to get activated but there are so many different sources of info that I have all different expectations. I was hoping someone who has been thru this was going to give me some answers. One post said that I should expect to get activated at least 1 time in my 6 year term because of natural disasters. I had a recruiter tell me in an email once that most activations are voluntary so it is very possible but at the current rate of volunteers, it is a lesser chance. I just want to get some realistic expectations to tell my better half. I mean if I had high expectations of going to a warzone, or away from home alone for more than 30 days it would be very difficult for me. I do not expect anyone to say "you won't get mobilized." Just trying to get a ballpark. I am going to call my recruiter, but you people always have some great info too! Thanks.
