I need you're guy's opinion... Which truck should I be looking @ Toyota Tacoma or Ford Ranger (or a different model???) what I want V6 Manual Transmission 4wd Room behind the seats for a dog or some gear My big point is reliability! I'm pretty handy with engines and maintenance, so minor repairs wouldn't bother me. But I want a small truck that'll last me for a while, without causing headaches. Any input and first hand experience would be appreciated!

Chouvener, there is no question to be asked Toyota Tacoma without a doubt.
Absolutely loved my Celica, Sequoia, 4 Runner and now Hybrid Highlander and have never had any maintenance problems other then the normal oil change and preventive maintenance stuff.

Man, I wish I could find the pictures I had of my 95 Tacoma. I can tell you right now that The toyota pickups are BEASTS. I only had the 4-banger engine, but it pushed that little truck extremely well. I had it 4 foot off the ground many times out at Silver Land Sand Dunes, and it just kept on trucking. I sold it about 6 years ago with 160k miles on it, and its STILL on the road today! I love Ford trucks, best in the world if you are looking at a half ton IMHO, but the Tacoma blows the Ranger out of the water any day. |

I had a Toyota...it wasn't a truck-it was a Highlander...but honestly I LOVED THAT THING! I wish I still had it. In fact I trade my jeep any day of the week for it...don't tell the hubby I said that though. :P

Forgot to mention, I had a friend that worked for TRW, and they were out testing a Ranger at the test track one day and he invited me out. Jumped a FX4 II about 2-3 feed and did over $7k in damage to it.... We even landed on all 4.... The lil Ford trucks just are not built to take the punishment. The F150 we tested that day was a tank though. |

The Silverado is to big.... overkill for the kind of driving I do. I think I'll stick with the Tacoma Thanks for all the input though!

My son says go with the Toyota, too. Of course, he's only 12 years old but believe it or not he reads Car and Driver magazine on a regular basis and says that's the best choice. : ) Laurie

well for me I would go on the Ford. But Different model truck it has much more power and stability rather than Toyota. With the innovation of different components used to execute in the fashion element of any vehicle, and also One of the most convenient and quickest ways to improve the feelings and mind-set of your Ford vehicle is through its tires. You can touch this part of your Ford and connect something that is more innovative Ford components like Ford hub cap. |

I'm a huge Ford guy. Gotta love the only American car company that didn't take bailout money, and now they're doing better than ever. |

Look All those 2009 toyota lovers. Ford is where its at. I bought a Ford edge last year and now I just want the 2012 one... with eco boost because even though Seattle is out of the $4.50 range for gas I still cry at the pump. I hate how toyotas drive. They are too sensitive and make me car sick. And the Tacomas just don't feel like a truck it feels like a bumper car raised high with a bed. F-150 is boss. My edge is named The Boss. Everytime I try and look for a similar vehicle I don't even last long because the edge has alot of room, is nice, and smooth.

$3.19 in the Dallas area. It jumped up over night from the $3.05 range. I do admitFord for not taking the bailout money, but I do have 3 Toyota's - 96 4-runner, 03 Tundra, 10 Prius, filling up the Prius is nice and it is not very often. |

Me and my wife just bought a RAV4 and we love it! Good gas mileage for a small SUV, very reliable, and you can't beat a certified toyota! Warrenties are awesome too. |

E, my wife really, really, wants a jeep...I think she is nuts :-) We were planning on renting one to drive up the California, Oregon and Washington coasts for our anniversary, but we changed plans and are now going to float the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers down in New Braunfels, just north of San Antonio. |

Cool so thats another Coastie I know now that has a Prius. That makes about 3 or so. But back on topic, I would go for a Tacoma. I just like the look and the options that they have versus a Ranger. But I think it depends more on what you are wanting out of the truck. |

My dad had a prius (retired coastie) and they got rid of it because brakes failed. After driving my ford explorer sport he fell in love and now drive a 06 explorer. So jealous! |

My uncle bought a brand new Prius. Had it for less than 5 hours; less than 20 miles on it. This is his 2nd. The one he traded in was about 4 years old and almost 330,000 miles on it. He is retired and loves to.drive cross count at least 3 times a year. Well the brand new one just turned off doing 60 mph on the NJ turnpike. Luckily all he hit was the center barricade and no one hit him. The car just turned off... No power steering, no brakes, nothing. Toyota offered to fix it for him... You know, since it was a used car. I will NEVER own a Toyota. |

Ours is 6 months and 10k miles old so far and it has been great so far. It is my first new car, my previous cars being a Dodge Dynasty(first car which I shared with my brother), 1996 Ford Focus, a 1993 Ford Taurus, another 1993 Ford Taurus and then a 1996 Ford Taurus. No I am not a Taurus fan I just happen to keep finding cheap ones with life left in them until I could afford the car I wanted. |

Nargil...not a coastie, just got hooked on the forum back when i was reseaching about the coast guard when my son showed some interest. Like to help those that I can with the little I know. I really like the Prius, there is a lot more room in them than I ever thought and they travel pretty nice, I know without question I would have a different opinion if it just shut off while driving...yikes that had to be an experience for your dad Macie! Glad no one was injured. What did the conclude happened when they fixed it? |

I had a Ford Focus for several years and I loved that thing! Then it just died in the middle of no-where Texas while I was driving to Petaluma! Well, since no one in 200 miles of Quana, Tx had a belt to fix it, and I was not staying there for 3 days, time for a new car! I had planned on getting one after a-school anyway, so I wasn't crush. The only place around was a Chevy dealer. I really wanted to stick with Ford (as previously mentioned, American made, no bail out) but I ended up with a Chevy Equinox. Such a great vehicle! Exactly what I wanted, I get compliments on it all the time. And I get 25mpg in Kodiak, 30 on the highway. Treated me well through ice and snow. I just wish it was 4wd! |

My dad drove a Ford Expedition for his work. Over 250k, almost half of that while towing a trailer that weighed a little more than half as much as the Expedition itself. Only had to change out the transmission once. I totaled it, that's the only reason we got rid of it. All he's driven for the past 15 years has been Ford, and the only reason he ever got a new one was because he (or I) destroyed one. I'm in the market for a truck right now and it would take a lot of selling for me to not buy an F-150 |
