I went old school and just broke down each order until I memorized them. Then, I wrote them on Flashcards(all CAPS) and shuffled them up and just quizzed myself. Also, while running or working out I would say the order on the rep or lap I was currently completing. Any advice on learning Rates and Ranks now?😁

Use the same strategy for rates and ranks, flashcards. Memorize the pay grade and rate/rank. E-1/Seaman Recruit, E-6/ Petty Officer 1st Class, E-7/Chief Petty Officer, O-1/Ensign etc... Also memorize the collar devices, shoulder boards and sleeve insignia's. You will be quizzed heavily on these in boot camp and you can and will be reverted if you don't know them! It doesn't take too long to memorize them if you try and its much better to learn them before boot camp.

I just finished boot camp and you have very little, if any time to be studying this stuff in boot camp. Keep in mind, your studying is going to be while you're sleep deprived, under pressure and high stress. Get your required knowledge down as much as possible BEFORE going to boot camp. You want to be the guy or gal who knows your required knowledge, most important ones include 11 General Orders, sleeve insignia, collar devices, shoulder boards and rates & ranks. Get this stuff down before you go. I only learned my 11 General orders before I went and all I can say is I was freaking lucky!!! People get reverted for this stuff. If you are having a hard time with your time objectives or make a stupid mistake and get put on probation, knowing this stuff is what will save your butt from getting reverted. By week 4 or 5 you get stopped by ANY company commander and get quizzed on this stuff and you don't know it, you will get put on probation and be reverted within 5 days.

Trust me, memorize that stuff and you'll be able to concentrate on other things and excel. You will set yourself apart being squared away and they will stop you less, quiz you less and trust you more. Don't be the dummy who doesn't know his general orders, you will be embarrassed like none other and you'll get a shiny red belt on you.

One more thing, if all you know is your general orders before you get there, you're already behind.
