    My son is a salaried employee in the Coast Guard (an ET) and my wife is a salaried employee in the Federal Government (EPA). My son is visiting us over the New Years holiday and mentioned that he had taken leave through Monday (New Year's Day). My wife pointed that she was not charged leave on weekends or Federal holidays and questioned whether my son would be charged leave even though he would otherwise be off New Year's Day weekend and holiday. He insisted that he was correct and that by extending his leave through January 1, he used up three days of leave more than if he had only requested leave through Friday, December 29. This was inconsistent with Federal Government policy and made no sense to us. Did our son lose three days leave because he didn't realize January 1 was a federal holiday, or is my wife right that he does not understand how U.S. Coast Guard leave policy works?
