Are there any careers in the coast guard that see combat, like work with guns and such because thats what im interested in doing. I was originally going to join the army rangers but they arent doing ranger contracts right now and i dont want to go in as regular infantry so i was wondering if the coast guard had any roles similiar to that.

Rangers are more of a ground force......MSST or D.O.G. would be similar I suppose. Either one will take some ( and by some time I mean a few years at the least after basic ). Coast Guard is not like other branches where you have to pick your job before basic. If you were to join, you could probly go BM ( which will probly take up to a year to get to A-School, depending on how long it takes you to get your quals at your first station and how long the list is ). Then there's many other stipulations. I'm at work right now, and this computer won't let me get to outside links (but this one because it's consitered govt.....haha). Click the "Search" button up top and look up MSST and Guard D.O.G.s. Hope this helps

If you like working with guns then check out the Gunners Mate rating. As far as combat roles, the Coast Guard has special groups that receive advanced training in force projection, maritime law enforcement, vessel boarding search teams. Look at Coast Guard DOG teams (deployable operations group, TACLET,and MSST. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6...le-it_news

The CG regularly chases down drug runners, boards suspicious vessels on the high seas, and deploys Cutters to seek and sieze ships carrying drugs and illegal
cargo. ALL ratings (jobs) in the CG can and do perform law enforcement duties, but the BM and MK ratings handle a substantial amount of those duties.

Contact a recruiter to see if you qualify to join.

    Here's a link with more info: http://www.gocoastguard.com/

    Good luck
