Hey my boyfriend is going to MEPS tomorrow. He had previously told his recruiter that yes, he had smoked marijuana about 3 years ago. Should he also tell meps he has? some of the guys there are telling him to say no. He does not want to get disqualified. Can he be if his drug screen is negative but admits to previously doing so?

If he lies at MEPS then the recruiter may DQ him when he finds out. Best to keep telling the truth and take your chances.

once you lie you'll have to cover it up and cover it up. be honest to a T. It would be horrible for him to get in and try to get a security clearance and they dig up stuff he lied about.

Who is asking him to lie, other applicants? If they are Coast Guard applicants, bring it to the attention of the recruiter, and we'll take care of it. Be honest at MEPS and with the recruiter at all times. Anything less than full honesty will get him disqualified. Our core values are Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. If he starts using them now, he will be fine.

Yes, it was other applicants telling him to lie. We both though that being honest would be best but they got inside his head and now he is a nervous wreck about it. He will be calling me around 0500 so I will report all the info you have shared. The applicants who said this, he has no idea who they are or anything. They have different recruiters.

Just out of curiosity where did he encounter these other applicants? As in what was the situation for the encounter.

I don't quite understand the question. Are you asking where he was? Or how the question came up?

I don't know if its the same everywhere so sorry if I sound stupid. He went to his recruiting office today and they drove him up to a naval base in massachusettes. Yesterday he took the ASVAB and today he will be doing the whole MEPS thing. So I guess he was hanging around a bunch of applicants. I believe he said it was just general conversation, and I believe some of the people were shipping out today. Hope I answered your question?

    Dear "standinbyhim416" :
Whatever happened with your boyfriend? If you already wrote about it somewhere, I apologize, I haven't read it. Also, about the "lying" thing: I know this sounds really corny, but I will always remember what Judge Judy said to someone lying to her in her courtroom: "You don't have to have a good memory when you tell the truth". I hope things worked-out for your boyfriend.

I never responded, but he was disqualified for having heat exhasution at 7. He was torn up, me, a little relieved. Now I regret that and wish he was in the CG.
