I do believe there is coffee at breakfast. However, you will not be allowed to keep your running shoes. You can have a perfectly good and wonderfully comfortable pair of boots too... they aren't part of the uniform, they don't get worn with the uniform. You will be issued the shoes you need and will be required to wear while at boot camp.

I love bootcamp questions. They remind me of my own fears before i shipped out.

Feel free to bring your own shoes. They will be stored in a secure area and you will be issued your "Go-Fasters" along with every one else in your company and yes, you will have to pay for them, just like everybody else in your company. (See a pattern here?)

As far as coffee, it depends on your Company Commanders. We had to earn our coffee in N-181. We got our first taste of coffee by week 04.

My son said he had coffee right from the start. He also called the sneakers "gofasters"... I have to admit I never heard that before.

"Go Fasters" are New Balance running shoes. They are pretty basic as far as running shoes go, but they do their job...

Hey CWUSCG I was in Mike-181! We had some good times together on your quarter deck; like yelling 212 (discipline) in our goretex for what felt like hours and having your ladderwell windows fog up and start dripping. Yeah, that sucked.

It will be the best sneaker you have for 8 weeks...

i had chief dendy as well in v-180. it was his first rodeo.......

That was the worst night... I was at the peak of my cold/flu.... DC2 asked me what was wrong, i obviously gave him the wrong answer because he took me into the office and chewed me a new one. Afterwards, everyone on the quarterdeck was like "He just got soo jacked up.." Oh and thanks for jacking up our squadbay! We were thrilled about that one.

Oh yeah, sorry about jacking up your squad bay there at the end... well, not really, it was fun.

We must have been good at jacking up squad bays though. We jacked up Sierra twice, and their CC's asked for any volunteers to jack them up for a third time again right after our graduation. I don't know if anyone went back to actually do it though. We jacked up Sierra sooo much worse than we did on you guys!

Don't bring your running shoes. They will just be put in storage with the rest of your civilian stuff. Everyone has the wear the Go Fasters (New Balance's cheapest pair).

Also coffee is something that you have to earn and is completely at the discretion of your CCs. I can't really tell you when you can have coffee, but it is definately there in the galley. I also got to have coffee during Week 4.

As for the "air raids," those were fun (if you were the ones doing it =P). Although it did happen to our squad bay a few times, but we just returned the favor a few weeks later with a junior company lol... Actually I thought they were kinda funny. I remember the first "air raid"... Our squad bay was shinning our boots and all of a sudden the CCs turned the lights off and yelled "Air raid! Hit the deck face down and put your hands over your head!" And then all these people ran inside our squad bay and jacked everything up. I even got stepped on twice... pissed me off... ah good times... =P

Ok, so what I get from this is...."Getting jacked up" would be when the CC's decide to do an "Air Raid", recruits from other companies come in and DESTROY everything?...I'm down! lol.

You say that now...But, wait till your there. You may not be so down with it once your there. Getting jacked up is the term used when a CC get's in your face and destroys you.

P.O Durrant and DC2 Sutton are close friends. DC2 told us they would plan stuff out while playing x-box. The "Tornado" was another crappy day. Durrant came and wreaked havoc in our squad bays. As soon as we were close to cleaning up after him, he would come back in and destroy it.

I gave up coffee for Lent... I didn't think I would be able to do it, 40 days, no coffee... argh! But I did it, piece of cake. I didn't even really miss it!

My boss told me at 7am on Ash Wednesday he was giving up soda for lent. At 8:30 he opened a bottle of soda... I looked at him and said "You didn't even make it 12 hours!?" He said "This is diet, I'm giving up regular soda..." I laughed and told him God has a little score card "Charles splittign a fine hair......." LOL

You can give it up... nows the time to start and then you won't even miss it by the time boot rolls around.

LOL, did you go back to coffee after lent ??? It seems especially tough for me since im also trying to wake up between 5-6 a.m. with not much to do till a little later in the day.

a while ago i chose to give up caffeine and i had the headaches like whoa but what i foudn to be the best was half caf coffee then slowly but surely i stopped drinking caffeine all together... and now if i have a cup of reg or a soda with some caffeine its eh ok but doesnt bother me one bit

I suffer from migraines... bring on caffeine headaches, I laugh at those! But I have never had one... or if I did I just figured it was Scott bothering me and it was a normal headache.

Day after Easter... right back at Dunkin Donuts for my morning cup of extra large coffee! It was easy to give it up for the Lord... but for me, nah, I'll go back to it! LOL I just decided if I wanted to give something up that is a daily "addiction" and would be one of the hardest things to stop. So no donuts, no coffee... 40 days... piece of cake. No, I didn't substitute cake for donuts either... :) it was just easy.

nreha-my daughter tried to quit smoking before boot camp and just couldn't. She said that as tough as it was, boot camp was tougher!! She said they kept her busy enough so that she didn't think about it too much. Good luck with that!!

I was gonna ask if she was able to quit. It's proven to be incredibly tough. I just can't imagine getting screamed at while going through a nic fit haha.

You just have to. It was more painful to let them (the cc's) see you sweat so to speak. Honestly she said it wasn't as hard as she thought it would be simply because they don't give you one second to yourself to think about how you are feeling. Every square inch of you hurts in places you didn't know you had so the nic fits aren't as noticeable-it's just another layer of pain on pain! She quit while in boot camp but she still smokes occasionally. It's tough cause so many of the Coasties smoke so when they "hang out" and everyone's smoking - it's tough to not smoke. She doesn't smoke as much as she used to but still does occasionally.
