    Amen! The fines might be on the weak side but they are a helluva lot stronger than what is currently in place!!! Everyone start calling & writing your Senators & Congressmen, be sure this one makes it through!

    Because there was a kid who got back from Iraq last summer, in Septmeber I believe, he was in college. His Jeep was trashed in the parking lot of his college. Spray painted with War Monger, Baby Killer, seats were slashed, tires were slashed, his soft top was demolished... and this was an attack not so much randomly because people are cruel but because this young man served his country and it was an attack on his service.

    So I don't think the penalties would be too harsh if they handed down the strongest sentence to teh Yahoo who did that to that young man's Jeep. It is tantamount to a hate crime against military. If there are laws in place protecting race, religion, sexual orientation why shouldn't there be something in place for those members of the military that are attacked for that exact reason... It is a hate crime, crime of bias, whatever you want to call it.

    I say we DO need it and it's about time it was enacted!

    Sorry, don't agree. The penalty should be the same as it would be for someone who did the exact same thing to a jeep belonging to a police officer, fireman, sales clerk or Sierra Club member.

    Don't believe in "hate crimes" either. The punishment should suit the crime, not the motivation for the crime.
