    Hello -

I am looking to clarify a few things before I head to a local USCG open house this month.  I have spoken with a recruiter, and I am hoping to become an officer in the USCG.  I have a BS, and I currently have a full-time job w/ military leave.

I read on gocoastguard.com that ROCI is three weeks, but I read elsewhere that OCS is 17 weeks.  Would I attend ROCI in addition to OCS, for a total of 20 weeks?  If someone could clarify the lenght of the officer training, I would really appreciate it.
    Hopeful USCG Recruit

    Completed USCG Paperwork:  January 2010
I'm in!  Paperwork Approved!  May 2010
    September Ship Date?

If you are looking at a reserve officer position, you are looking at the ROCI program. OCS is an Active Duty officer program.

    Hope this helps!

    Chuck

Got it!  Would I also attend boot camp in Cape May for 8 weeks, for a total for 11 weeks of training?

No you would not attend boot camp as that is an enlisted program. Your full training is ROCI.

Look under SRDC (select reserve direct commission) at the gocoastgguard.com website, It will help!

    Hope this helps!

See my other posts where I address reserve officer programs and the realities of serving as a drilling reservist. I believe you'll find an answer to your question. It's also worth noting, with the exception of active duty enlisted members selected for OCS, once known as "temps", all other Officer Candidates are reservists with a three year active duty obligation. They may integrate and become a "regular" officer by extending their three year obligation and following current procedure. Otherwise, once the three year obligation is met, they may request to drill in the Selected Reserve. If that's the case, they are and will remain a reserve officer...unless they choose to go back on active duty in an EAD or ADSW gig and compete for promotion on the ADPL...Active Duty Promotion List...and this option may have changed since I retired. They may also apply for the RPA or Reserve Program Administrator Program..but that's more than I want to address in this post.<!-- Edit -->
