Yeah it's extremely exciting and nervewrecking! My co-worker has a count down and it gives me a panic attack everytime she says how many days away it is lol. I think she likes to watch me squirm! My daughters birthday is on Dec. 7 so I'm going to miss that and Christmas which kind of sucks but in the long run is worth it. We're going to try and celebrate that last weekend.

What career path are you trying to go? Or are you going with the flow trying to figure out what you want to do?

    Zorro,

I am planning on going to OS A school after boot camp. Have you decided what you are going to do in the CG yet?

Funny, that's what I'm doing after bootcamp. My recruiter sent off my information and got me in on the February 16 class. We could be spending many months together, you better be awesome :) I'm pretty excited about OS. I know it's not in all the action but I really like planning and problem solving so I think this will be a very fulfilling career path.

I'm shipping out of Atlanta, Ga MEPS :-) I know! When I went up to MEPS to swear into DEP, the only other 5 coasties were all going Dec 8...I thought my recruiter may have told me the wrong date...haha....are either of yall females? I know we seem to be a rare breed in the military...but I'm currently a police officer and we are even more rare in this job!!

Yes I'm a female! My name is Stacy and I'm 25, nice to meet you! Good to also know there's another female! Why the change from police to CG? We have like 7 people leaving KC MEPS on October 13 and then nobody on Dec. 1. We're like the lone rangers lol.

I can't wait to see California too. Looking forward to doing some traveling. My name is Phil and I am 27. Took me a while but glad I finally decided to join the Coast Guard. OS is gonna be awesome. I had the chance to check out a Coast Guard Base down off the North Carolina Coast a couple of months ago and met with some of the OS's down there. They had nothing but good things to say about it. They work some long hours though.

Hey all! Zorro, I'm switching to CG from police officer bc basically, I'm looking for a new challenge! I absolutely LOVE law enforcement, but the dept I'm working for right now, I serve as a patrol SGT and thats as far as I can advance for a lonnnng time bc everyone there is going to probably stay until retirement...and I'm so ready for a new adventure :-) I'm 26 year old female, so, Phil, I am also starting out a lil late :-) I do have a degree, but would like to get my masters sometime in the near future. I am totally excited to join CG and serve my country!! :-)

Hey everybody... Are any of you all married? Just wondering how your significant others are handling you joining the military. My wife has been pretty awesome so far. A lot more supportive than my folks.

    P. S. - I failed to mention that I have the best DAMN recruiter in the country... =)

That's awesome...this seems like the perfect career for you. Lots of room to grow and so many great opportunities! It would be nice to be able to finish my degree eventually. I put a lot of things on hold so my husband could finish his schooling. I've been stuck in this dead end job for over 4 years now. The day I turn in my two weeks notice will be grand :) It will be nice to finally have a job that gives back and makes a difference.

On a side note, I'm glad you guys are old farts like me. I was afraid that everyone would be under the age of 21. Which isn't bad by any means I would just feel uber old. My dad keeps joking that they will call me grandma!

For those of you who have a spouse or parent that have any questions or worries, make sure that you are letting them know about this site! There is also a company blog that each boot camp company does so that family members can keep track of their progress and not constantly wonder what they are doing. Great resources.

It's crazy to think that we are less than 30 days away. I believe you are right on the Uniform company name. What all are you doing to get ready?
