That's a cool site. We have a little countdown clock that sits right in front of my son's computer to remind him how little time he has left to get himself in shape. All he's really been doing is some mountain biking a day or two a week. I hope it's enough because he works the rest of the time! I'm glad your boot camp date is getting closer, but it's starting to hit home that my first-born is leaving... and probably will never live here again. I'm starting to relate dates to how much longer he will be here. Like, today I made my daughter a dentist appointment for 6 months from now and realized (I know it's silly) that Dan won't live here anymore when that day gets here. And.... this is his last Christmas, and he will be at boot camp for Easter. I'm doing ok but I'm going to be blubbering like a baby when he leaves. Yet, I'm so excited for him and all you guys/gals that are just starting your careers.

Awww that's nice to hear you guys are close to your families. It will be hard at first but as time goes on it turns into pride and joy. So get through the rough times and it will pay off because you will be filled with pride later on!! :) |

Fifty three freakin days! Oh man! It seems so far away but then I look and realize I have less than two months and more than two months ago I got my date. This is crazy. Training is so good! What are you all doing to get ready?

I would suggest push ups, sit ups, anything cardio, swimming and studying the Helmsman. My son is there now, Tango 182 and he said the first few days to week is tough but after that you get used to the routine. Good luck to you all, its an adventure for sure. To all the moms and dads, yes it is really tough when they leave but you know its a great choice for them so that makes it a little easier. We didn't have Taylor home for Christmas and that was hard, but because he got to participate in operation fireside he called home 4 times!! Its was the first we had spoke to him since we dropped him off at Albany MEPS back on Dec. 7th. |

Well, other than the mountain biking and nearly getting himself killed yesterday, my son is not doing a whole lot to get ready. He's got great endurance, but those flutter kicks, push-ups and sit-ups are going to kick his hiny. He'll get his rear in gear soon. But he'll need every single day between now and then to get ready!

ya he better get working soon...I was already in pretty good shape when I go my ship date a few months ago (I have been playing competitive hockey for 11 years) and I have still been working out daily for a few hours at a time. Been alternating between pushups and weights one day, and sit ups/flutter kicks/running the other days. Unless he wants to do IT daily, and possibly get reverted (which I am still worried about even though I have been working out like a maniac) I would advise him to get to work IMMEDIATELY. shepard...congrats on leaving Wal Mart haha, that has got to be exciting to be switching from that job/source of income to the USCG...I was laid off from my job as a landscape estimator due to the econom and decided it was finally time to act on my dream of being a coastie, and I cant wait to leave for basic and be done with sitting around all day...IM GOING NUTS!!! Anyways, good luck to you guys in your workouts, and see you in Philly!!!!! |

Nah I don't have anything packed. I do everything pretty much last minute but I figure it's not too bad in this case since we really don't have to bring all that much. I'm going shopping this weekend for all the essentials. I may pick up a digital watch with military time as well.

Synapse, He's in my friends on facebook. just look through there. On the packed bags...I've had my pack ready for two months. Just ready for that last minute call if it ever arose. I would suggest getting it packed now. Better safe than sorry.
