    I've been decking on towboats for about 6 years now. I am ready to take the next step and go for my apprentice steersman. The only problem is I have been in some trouble in the past. My rap sheet includes 1 DWI conviction, 1 dismissed DUI with a refusal to submit to alcohol test, and 1 simple possession of marijuana. The DWI conviction was 3 years ago and both the dismissed dui/refusal to submit and possession charge were 2 years ago. Could anyone tell me what exactly I need to do to get an approval from the USCG to get my apprentice steersman and ultimately my unlimited master of towing license?

    I'm expecting a long process to get all this cleared up so I'd like to get this in gear asap. Any info will be greatly appreciated!
