Well, on a positive note, at least there's still a choice involved. With bonuses, guaranteed schools, and guaranteed districts gone for the time being, it's nice to still get something. |

Guarenteed districts are gone? I just talked to my recruiter the other day and thats not what I was told. He said on my final contract I would get my Bonus for having a degree, guarenteed district(8) for my high ASVAB score and E-3 pay throughout bootcamp and E-3 status when I graduate. |

Check with your recruiter again, I have been away for a week, but guaranteed districts and bonuses (aside from FS) are stopped. There may be a miscommunication.

Ok good news from my recruiter. They are not offering bonuses for having a degree and guarenteed districts anymore but the ones that have already been guarenteed are not being taken away. So my final contract will have my bonus and guarenteed district (8) on it!!! It was definetly a relief to hear that! |

Posted By Jessica on 09 Jun 2010 01:29 PM Any rumors about if/when guaranteed districts might be coming back? No clue, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't come back at all. On the bright side, you can still choose the district you want. There's just no guarantee of assignment within that district. In the long run, it doesn't make a bit of difference where you end up. Your first tour is only as long as your wait for 'A' school. |

Yes, I plan on spending a decent time at my first duty station. I will either be there for a yr to 18 months while I am on a waiting list for HS or until I leave for OCS whichever happens first. :/ |

In the current climate don't count on leaving for OCS. |

Just an FYI, I was the last company to choose units in basic and while we were there several people did NOT get their guaranteed districts. There is a list with the Admin department in Cape May, if your name isn't on it, you won't get a guaranteed district, so you may be careful with what you expect. As far as we were told that change was permanent, however as recruits were never really told anything, rather overhearing things... |

Keep in mind too, that some people choose to waive their guaranteed districs. In addition to that, the possibility existst that they never had a guaranteed district in the first place. If a guaranteed district approved by CGRC and is in writing, it will be honored. |

Also very true, we had about 4 people waive their guaranteed districts for various reasons, one being to apply for Honor Guard. However, just because someone waives their guaranteed district doesn't mean another slot opens up, or am I incorrect on that assumption? I just remember our company YN coming in and reading a list of names and saying if your name wasn't read sorry, your guaranteed district is gone, needs of service. Personally I think guaranteed districts make things too comfortable, go out a live a little! Heck I moved 2900 miles to Ketchikan, AK and I love it, why not travel at government expense, life is what you make it! |

That could have just been a poor choice of words by the YN at Cape May. When a contract is signed, there is an annex that covers the guaranteed district. As long as the guarantee was included when booking the ship date, it should be good to go. I don't really have an opinionon guaranteed districts. Some people love them. For others, it doesn't work out. I didn't have any guarantees or bonuses when I came in, and I turned out ok. |

About the same as getting a 270' in New England. |

Well, you only list districts now. If you list District 13, there are a lot of units there for you to possibly get. You can't request specific units anymore, so as Gears said, the chances are about the same as getting anything else. |
