I need encouragement...

I know that's a great way to start a post, but yes. Hello, I am new to the boards and have hardly had time to read through them, but I am due to ship out in Feb 2010. I put in my officer package and am waiting for an interview but decided to go active while waiting to get picked up. I am excited as could be about a new career opportunity (even though the health services has a 16 mo waiting list for Aschool). However, I am 25 years old with a husband and 2 young children. Leaving them for 8 weeks is not very exciting and makes me feel sick to the stomach... Any suggestions there???

My husband is in the Navy Reserves and served 5 active so I am very used to the life and he is actually crossing over to the CG in May, so that is exciting as well...

Anyways... all the info is welcomed and appreciated...

How old are your children? I can't give you any advice about going through boot camp as a mom, but as a mother of 6 I can think of a few ways that might make it a little easier for them and that might put your mind at east a bit while you are there. You'll surely miss them, probably painfully so the first few days, but you'll also be insanely busy and the time will fly by.

I'm also a 25 year old mom of a three year old with an active duty husband and am in the process of enlisting. For me, the career benefits, the lifelong experiences and the role model I'll be to my daughter by serving my country via Coast Guard outweigh my short term (and still current) worries about leaving her for 8 weeks. Of course I'm still a little anxious about leaving her for 8 weeks, but I try to focus on the big picture and how much it'll benefit not just me, but my whole family for the better.

Thanks tons. I have a 6 yr old girl and a 2 yr old boy. I am used to being away from my husband with him being prior service but the fact of no one can replace mom lingers lol. I do try to think long term and all of the positive stuff but I still get the sick to the stomach feeling knowing I only have just over 2 months left...
