Welcome to the Officer Forum! This is a good place to ask about information concerning the Officer Programs in the US Coast Guard.

I will start it off with a sincere question. While enlisted, if I decided that I wanted to do OSC, what is the oldest I can be accepted? I know a coastie who was JUST accepted into OSC and I'd guess that he was at least 30-something.

Also, how difficult is it to become warrant officer? I know that one must first make chief, and that they are non-commissioned, but that is about the extent of my WO knowledge.

What are the major differences between officers and warrant officers? Are warrant officers specialized in their rating?

The age depends on a number of factors. Your unit yeoman will help you. As for CWO you must be an E7, OR E6 and be in the top 50% of the Service wide exam for E7. Check with your yeoman.
Warrant Officers are specialists in their field.

I'm in the process of seriously considering SRDC and entering the Coast Guard Reserve as an Officer through this program. I understand Officers of SRDC don't attend an "A" school as this is for enlisted but does the CG offer any additional training to Officer's after SRDC or is it pretty much "on the job training". Lastly I haven't grasped whether or not Reserve Officers will be given a "specialty" upon placement in their assignment or if you are simply going to be filling the open slot in your geographic drilling area. For example I have a strong LE background and am a current a federal LE Agent and would obviously be interested in being an Officer in a PS unit vs say being an officer in charge of environmental clean-up. Could anyone clear this up for me as I haven't seem to have found a solid answer on this.

Get in touch with a recruiter. They will be your best source of information.
