From everything I've heard, it's best to talk to a recruiter and get the process started as early as possible.

I first talked to my recruiter in February and am currently looking at/hoping for a January ship date.

Right now I have heard wait times, if you get through everything else could be up to 24 months. Best of luck to your so. Everything worth having is worth waiting for! :-)

started process September 2009 and ship July 2010 and it seemed like every 3 months I took a step forward in process. but I think everyone's time frame will be different based on slot availability and how recruiter sees you relative to other recruits. also, you can slow yourself down by taking too long on any one hurdle ie. weight, low ASVAB, medical documentation, credit, legal issues etc..

The process to get fully qualified can take anywhere from 1 to 3 months. Once fully qualified, it's a matter of getting ship dates for the top candidates. If there are 50 fully qualified people, and only 25 job openings, then the other 25 will have to wait until more openings become available. Once the new openings are there, it still comes down to being the most competitive. In the current economic climate, even fully qualified people won't get in. It's just a matter of supply vs. demand.

I started talking to my recruiter in March 2010, tested in April, did MEPS fun in May, and now my ship date is July 13, 2010.

I got a lucky spot, though. One opened up and thankfully I was the only female he was working with.

I began the process last Sept and took my ASVAB immediately. My original shipdate was Feb 23rd but I had to get it moved to July due to civilian complications on my behalf. So I would say I would have originally waited 5 months from the first talk with the recruiter til I originally could have left.

    SK2B,

Were you that overweight? There is no exception for weight and no showing anyone unless you drop the pounds!

    Identical for me..

Talked to my recruiter in November, took my ASVAB in January, went through medical in February, and entered the DEP (Delayed Entry Program) in June, next is the best part... basic in August
